First and foremost you should insure that you follow all of your cosmetic surgeons post-op instructions to the letter. His instructions are given both to protect your health and to help insure the best possible liposuction outcome after surgery, failure to follow his orders could result in seriously compromising your health and happiness. Other things you can do to speed your recovery are:

Make sure you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day. Only water can fully hydrate your body, so make sure you are getting enough to drink, and remember soda doesn’t count.

Avoid both tobacco products and alcohol in the days and weeks after your surgery, alcohol can cause bleeding, and tobacco can damage the skin and slow healing.

Avoid extreme heat or cold- do not try to use ice or heat packs of surgical sites.

Do not take baths or swim until after your stitches are removed and your incision sites fully healed.

Continue to wear compression garments after stitches and drains are removed, until swelling has fully receded.

After surgical sites have completely healed, schedule a massage. This can help your body drain, and reduce swelling.

Be careful to retain a constant weight. Gaining or loosing significant weight after plastic surgery can create dimples, divots, and other strange shapes in the surface of the skin.

Make sure that you have realistic expectations. Keep in mind that it can take up to six months for the final results to show. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms of depression or dissatisfaction.

Don’t be afraid during your recovery to ask for help if you need it. This is a time to focus and take care of you.
